Roundtable Topic
The roundtable will be held in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú Law School and its invaluable contributions to the development of law and the democracy in Peru, particularly constitutional law. The many notable alumni of PUCP Law School include high-ranking authorities who have served in the Peruvian government and at international entities. The school has been one of the driving forces behind the most important normative and institutional changes and innovations that have shaped the topography of not only the Peruvian government, but the country’s society as a whole, with an influence and impact that has been felt throughout Latin America and the world.
In view of the school’s wide-ranging achievements, the roundtable will address the topic of migration processes in the twenty-first century and the challenges these processes present for constitutional law and the constitutional state. A total of four discussion tables are planned: “Session 1: Challenges in Organizing the Constitutional State in Response to the Migration Phenomenon”; “Session 2: Constitutional and Conventional Protection of Migrants’ Rights”; “Session 3: The Fundamental Rights of Statelessness”; and “Session 4: The Protection of Migrants’ Social Rights in Unconsolidated Social States and States with High Poverty Levels.” The discussion tables will be run by two co-moderators, and will include three talks by renowned academic experts on the subject. After the speakers have finished presenting their talks, time will be allowed for a fruitful exchange of opinions and debate among the speakers and the audience.
Topics and Selection of Papers for the Special Discussion Table
A special discussion table is being planned to present papers addressing the topics of the various discussion tables. Papers will be selected from among those submitted by young graduate researchers (currently pursuing their master’s, doctoral, or postdoctoral degree) and/or Peruvian professors of constitutional law.
Submission of Abstracts
Interested parties should submit their CV or proof of degree credits (no longer than one page) in English, French, or Spanish, along with an abstract of their paper (no longer than 500 words) by 30 May 2019 via email to
Costs, Travel, and Lodging Fees
100 soles post-graduate students and 120 soles Peruvian scholars (www.pucp.edu.pe/ajazNE). There is no cost to submit papers. The cost of travel, meals, and lodging is the responsibility of each individual author.
Place and Time of Presentation
The authors of the selected papers will present them at the Special Discussion Table to be held on Friday, 25 October starting at 5:45 p.m. Each speaker will be given a maximum of ten minutes to present his/her paper. Lima, 23 April 2019
